President Paul Kagame secured over 99% of the votes in the recent presidential election, winning his fourth term in office. The election results were announced after the opposition conceded defeat.
Landlide Victory: Kagame first assumed power in 2000 and has maintained a strong hold, winning each subsequent election by a large margin. This election, with over 99% of the vote, reflects his enduring popularity in Rwanda.
Mr Kagame, leading with 99.15 percent of the total vote tallied – according to the provisional results as of 10pm EAT – has won his fourth term in office.
The RPF-Inkotanyi candidate Kagame had secured 7,099,815 votes, and Mr Habineza of the Democratic Green Party, having just 38,301 votes for 0.53%.
While only having secured 55% of the votes, Mr Habineza congratulated Mr kagame up on being winner, and totally agreed with the election results.
Independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana was trailing with 22,753 votes for 0.32 percent.
Reportedly, nine million voters turned up for the national activity, with provisional results released recording 7 million votes tallied between 3pm and 10pm.
